London calling again

We had an exciting day yesterday. Lunch at The Stockpot in Panton Street, near Piccadilly Circus. They are not as cheap as they used to be, but still one of the best places in London if you want a hot meal and a drink for less than £10. And they do dishes no other restaurant does, like broccoli with blue cheese sauce and chips, or escalope milanese.

Then we were off to Boylen Stadium, Upton Park, for West Ham-Barnsley in the FA Cup. Lovely stadium, reasonably priced souvenirs and a good game. 3-0 to West Ham. I think Craig Bellamy was the man of the match. I wonder how many kilometres he ran. And what a speed.
Just one thing I wonder. We had tickets in Dr Marten's Stand. But why do they call it stands? They are full of seats and you are not allowed to stand there.

Then it was the Cellar Upstairs Folk Club at Exmouth Arms near Euston Station. Cellar Upstairs is a guarantee for a good night out. Just a £6 entrance fee for almost three hours of music. Some of the floor singers were excellent, with lovely versions of The King and Monday Morning, and Graham Larkby doing Auld Lang Sammy by John Otway and a hilarious version fo Send in the Clowns, but this time concerning the lack of toilet paper rolls in Charing Cross Station. And I got the chance to play a few tunes with Tom Paley, borrowing his lovele 1929 Martin guitar. If he is ever burgled and the only thing that is missing is the guitar he can tell the police were to look.
Headliners Duck Soup were good as well, with some strange instruments. Have you ever heard of the marimba being used in folk music? I can tell you it works very well.

Today has been freezing cold. Maybe it was because of this Covent Garden seemed almost deserted at 10 am. But I got another "Hobo" to add to my collection.
The lunch at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese off Fleet Street was good as ever. Their Scoptch Roast Beef is highly recommended, the Lemon Merangue Pie as well.
Then off to see Tate Modern. I am sorry to say it did nothing to make me a follower of modern art. On the contrary. After a while I remembered a monologue by George Hincliffe of The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, the one when he tals about his days as a cleaner in the arts department of a museum and as such daily is faced with one of life's crucial questions. Is it art or is it rubbish? After spedning an hourt at Tate Modern i realise how easily mistakes vould be made.
But the Chandos in the north east corner of Trafalgar Square is a nice place for a rest. Nice atmosphere and £7.98 for 3,5 pints and two packets of crisps (there were four of us) is more than price wrothy.

You seem to be enjoying yorself. By all means do. Guess what you´ll have to do when you return? That´s right, shovel snow! It kept on snowing the entire last night, so you´ll have app 5 inches of snow on your drive way to take care of. By now it´s -12 degrees, so it will probably not melt away.

Keep goin´!
