Message from Leamington Spa

Just could not resist the temptation. In the village of Harbury at the moment. Tonight Fairport are playing in Leamington Spa, just a few miles away.

We had to change buses in Coventry on the way from Heathrow to Leamington Spa this morning. The bus to Conventry was very early so we had some time to look at the cathedrals. There are two, the old one that was bombed in WWII, but is left as a place of reconcilation, and the new modern one. And they are linked together by an archway. Very impressive both of them. My only objection is that it is very difficult to take good photographs of them.
Everything is very central in Coventry, so during our 25-minute walk we also had time to look at the Lady Godiva-statue in one of the squares, yes she did her ride in Coventry, and pass the university.

In Leamington Spa we found a nice pub, The Copper Pot in Warwick Street, and had lunch there. British Beef and Ale Pie with a pint of Abbot's Ale, a nice reminder that you actually are in England.
Leamington Spa is also a nice town. last time we were here we only did the shops, now we found a lovely park down by the river, The Leam. Must come back in the summer.
There is still snow on the ground in many places here. Our friends, that we are staying with, made a seven-foot snowman a while ago, but there are only a small piece left of him.

The disappointment of the day was buying Time Out finding that they have skipped the sports section. But there are a few good classical concerts in London tomorrow and the day after that. I wonder if I can drag my wife along to the Royal College of Music tomorrow evening to listen to Haydn String Quartets, or maybe to the folk club in Waltamstow to listen to Wizz Jones, one of the great heroes of the Enhlish folk and blues scene, and a terrific guitar player. Or maybe we will just do the Jack the Ripper Walk.
